Offered is a hand-signed cut signature of Brigadier General James H. Howard (1913–1995), executed in pencil. This signature originates from a limited edition Gathering of Eagles lithograph and has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, ensuring both verification and long-term preservation.
James Howell Howard was one of the most distinguished fighter pilots of World War II and the only fighter ace in the European Theater of Operations to receive the Medal of Honor. A former member of the American Volunteer Group—the famed Flying Tigers—Howard first saw combat over China, destroying six Japanese aircraft before joining the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942.
In Europe, Howard commanded the 356th Fighter Squadron of the 354th Fighter Group, flying the P-51 Mustang on long-range escort missions deep into Germany. On January 11, 1944, while escorting bombers over Oschersleben, Howard single-handedly attacked a formation of more than 30 German fighters, protecting the bombers until they reached safety. Despite being outnumbered and running low on fuel and ammunition, his aggressive defense of the formation earned him the Medal of Honor—the only one awarded to a fighter pilot in the European campaign.
Howard finished the war with six aerial victories in Europe and six in China, becoming one of the few American aces to score in both theaters of operation. His heroism, leadership, and professionalism made him one of the most respected airmen of his generation.
This authenticated and encapsulated cut signature represents an exceptional opportunity to own the autograph of a Medal of Honor recipient, P-51 Mustang ace, and true legend of American aviation history.
