The original acrylic painting "Coming to America" on canvas measures approximately 66" x 71" in size. Hand-signed in black paint by artists Mark Kostabi and Howard Finster (D. 2001). The piece is dated 1993 and features the combined styles of the folk art of Howard Finster with the pop-contemporary art of Mark Kostabi. The piece also includes (2) wooden stretch poles shown.

Mark Kostabi

A world-famous artist as well as an accomplished composer, Mark Kostabi is nearly synonymous with the New York art scene. Having made his debut in 1982, Kostabi soon became a leading figure of the wild and heady East Village art scene - surrounded by the likes of Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and others. Among many other notable commissions, Kostabi did the artwork for Guns n' Roses "Use Your Illusion" and the Ramones' "Adios Amigos" albums. Recently, Kostabi was recognized by Pope Benedict XVI who officially blessed his bronze statue of Pope John Paul II at its inauguration in Rome. An always-prolific and dynamic artist as well as public figure, Kostabi divides his time between New York and Rome.

Howard Finster (D. 2001)

Howard Finster is an American Baptist minister and artist most well known for his folk art style and building "Paradise Garden" in Summerville, Georgia; a garden featuring over 46,000 pieces of art. Finster first became well-known in the 1980s through his album cover designs for bands R.E.M. and Talking Heads.
