Picasso was born to a middle-class family in Malaga, Spain and his father was a curator in a local museum as well as a painter of naturalistic birds and game. Picasso began his artistic training in 1890 under his father and within four years his professional style began to emerge. In his lifetime he created numerous sketches and drawings but also designed tapestries, sculptures, prints and ceramics making himself one of the most versatile artists of his time.
