After playing his entire career with in Japan, Matsui left Japan having amassed 1,390 hits, 332 HR, 889 RBI and a .304 lifetime average. With the reputation of being a superior hitter, Matsui didn't disappoint in his debut hitting an RBI single in his first at-bat and adding a memorable Grand Slam in the 5th inning on Opening Day vs. the Twins. Since then, Matsui went on to carry the Yankees on his back in the 2009 World Series, hitting .615 with 3 HR and 8 RBI, and winning the 2009 WS MVP award in the process.
