John II Casimir was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1648 until his abdication in 1668 as well as titular King of Sweden from 1648 until 1660. He was the second son of Sigismund III Vasa and Constance of Austria. His older brother and predecessor on the throne was W?adys?aw IV Vasa.

The reign of John Casimir was one of the most disastrous in Polish history. Marked by heavy losses of Polish territory incurred in wars against the Ukrainians, Tatars, Swedes, and Russians. He ultimately died in France in 1672, as an exile, having abdicated the throne in 1668. He was the last Polish ruler of the House of Vasa and the last king of Poland with a blood connection to the famous Jagiellon dynasty.
