Custom framed display measures 26.5” x 32.5” triple matted, burl wood framed.

The display contains a military appointment signed by Abraham Lincoln (D. 1865) for Giles B. Overton (01/09/1825-10/17/1906) to the 14th US infantry issued in March of 1861. The commission was a reward for Overton having served as a representative to the 1860 Republican convention, as a delegate who nominated Abraham Lincoln (February 12th, 1809-April 15th, 1865) for 16th president of the United States (March 4th, 1861-April 15th, 1865) Giles Overton, unlike many political nominees, served with distinction during the Civil War, where he was wounded at Chancellorsville, and breveted Major at his discharge in July of 1865, at the conclusion of the war. Also signing this document were Simon Cameron (D. 1889), Lincoln’s first Secretary of War, and Major General Lorenzo Thomas's, Quartermaster General of the Union Army.

The document is center framed with a gold filigree border, and is accompanied by a 4 stamp 1959 sesquicentennial FDC of Lincoln’s birth, a fine 8x10 portrait of Lincoln, a bronze presidential medal, and two informational plaques containing dates and a Lincoln quote.

Please note, the frame is chipped on the 2 top corners.

The lot / autograph(s) includes an official Beckett Authentication Services hologram and matching LOA as well as an official James Spence Authentication (JSA) hologram and matching LOA for authenticity purposes.
