Apollo 13 was the third crewed mission intended to land on the Moon, launched by NASA on April 11, 1970. The mission encountered a major crisis when an oxygen tank exploded, severely damaging the spacecraft and jeopardizing the lives of the astronauts. The crew—James Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert—had to abort the lunar landing and improvise a return to Earth using the Lunar Module as a lifeboat. Despite the life-threatening challenges, the mission is often hailed as a "successful failure" due to the safe return of the astronauts and the demonstration of effective problem-solving and teamwork
