**Brigadier General Charles Edward McGee** (1919–2022) stands among the most distinguished aviators in U.S. military history. A pioneering member of the **Tuskegee Airmen**, McGee flew more than **409 combat missions** spanning **World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War**—a record few have matched.

During WWII, McGee served with the famed **332nd Fighter Group**, known as the ""Red Tails,"" escorting bombers deep into enemy territory across Europe. Flying a **P-51 Mustang** named **“Kitten”**, which he named in honor of his wife, McGee achieved **aerial victories and distinguished himself with superb skill and discipline**, helping to dismantle racial stereotypes and opening doors for African Americans in the military.

After the war, McGee continued his remarkable service across three conflicts, amassing over **6,300 flying hours**. He retired as a **Colonel** in 1973 and was later **honorarily promoted to Brigadier General** by President Donald Trump in 2020. Among his many accolades are the **Distinguished Flying Cross**, **Legion of Merit**, and the **Bronze Star**. McGee was also a recipient of the **Congressional Gold Medal** awarded collectively to the Tuskegee Airmen in 2007.
