**Charles Donald Albury (1920–2009)** was a decorated U.S. Army Air Forces pilot and the co-pilot of the **Bockscar**, the aircraft that dropped the second atomic bomb—code-named **“Fat Man”**—on the city of Nagasaki. A native of Florida, Albury was a seasoned pilot by the time he joined the **509th Composite Group**, having flown numerous missions during the war.
On **August 9, 1945**, Albury assisted Major Charles W. Sweeney in piloting the Bockscar from **Tinian Island** to Nagasaki in one of the most pivotal missions in military history. The mission led to Japan's unconditional surrender just days later, marking the effective end of World War II.
