Dr. Sally Kristen Ride (1951–2012) was a pioneering physicist, astronaut, and educator whose name is forever etched in the annals of space exploration. On **June 18, 1983**, she made history aboard the **Space Shuttle Challenger STS-7 mission**, becoming the **first American woman—and at the time, the youngest American—to travel into space**.

Ride earned her bachelor's, master’s, and doctoral degrees in physics from **Stanford University**, where she was also a nationally ranked tennis player. Selected as a NASA astronaut in 1978, she flew two missions and later served on both the **Challenger and Columbia accident investigation boards**.
