### **Biographies of the Signers:**
**George Gay**
Ensign George H. Gay Jr. was the sole survivor of **Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT-8)** during the **Battle of Midway** on June 4, 1942. Flying a Douglas TBD Devastator off the deck of the USS Hornet, Gay and his fellow aviators launched a torpedo attack against the Japanese fleet. Although every plane in the squadron was shot down and Gay himself was wounded, he survived by floating in the Pacific—hidden under a seat cushion—witnessing the subsequent destruction of three Japanese carriers by U.S. dive bombers. His firsthand account, _Sole Survivor_, is a harrowing and heroic narrative of sacrifice, resilience, and pivotal history.
**Commander Scott McCuskey**
Commander Scott McCuskey was a highly decorated **U.S. Navy Fighter Ace** who flew the **F4F Wildcat** and **F6F Hellcat** in the Pacific Theater. He served with **Fighting Squadron 42 (VF-42)** aboard the USS Yorktown and later with VF-8. McCuskey achieved **at least 12 confirmed aerial victories**, participating in some of the most intense air combat of the war, including the Battle of Coral Sea. His courage and effectiveness in combat earned him numerous honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
