About the Signers

Brigadier General C.E. “Bud” Anderson was a triple ace of the 357th Fighter Group with 16 ¼ aerial victories, flying the famed Old Crow. He remained an influential figure in U.S. Air Force history and was revered as the last living triple ace of WWII.

Robert Goebel, credited with 11 aerial victories, flew the P-51 Mustang in the Mediterranean Theater as a member of the 31st Fighter Group and later became a published author and military historian.

Walker “Bud” Mahurin, a rare two-theater ace, earned 20½ victories across both the European and Pacific Theaters, serving in the 56th Fighter Group and later in Korea and Vietnam.

Herschel Green, a top ace in the 15th Air Force with 18 confirmed kills, was among the most decorated P-51 pilots in the Mediterranean.

Jim Brooks, of the 31st Fighter Group, achieved 13 aerial victories and played a vital role in achieving air superiority over Europe.

Robert Bailey is one of the most respected contemporary aviation artists, widely known for capturing dramatic moments of air combat with remarkable accuracy and artistic depth.

Significance of the P-51 Mustang in WWII

The P-51 Mustang is widely regarded as the finest Allied fighter of WWII. Designed for long-range bomber escort missions, the Mustang revolutionized the air war in Europe by allowing U.S. bombers to strike deep into enemy territory with fighter protection all the way to the target and back. With its speed, maneuverability, and deadly firepower, the P-51 helped ensure Allied air supremacy.
