### **Biography of Colonel Carroll W. "Red" McColpin (1914–2003)**
Colonel Carroll “Red” McColpin was a highly accomplished fighter pilot who served with valor in multiple Allied air forces during World War II. Uniquely, McColpin is one of the few American pilots to have achieved aerial victories with three different air forces: the **Royal Air Force (RAF)**, the **Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)**, and the **United States Army Air Forces (USAAF)**.
Before the United States officially entered World War II, McColpin volunteered to serve with the RAF and flew **Supermarine Spitfires** in the famed **Eagle Squadrons**, composed of American volunteer pilots. Following the U.S. entry into the war, he transitioned to the USAAF, ultimately becoming the commanding officer of the **336th Fighter Squadron** of the **4th Fighter Group**—a unit that grew out of the original Eagle Squadrons.
McColpin is officially credited with **12 aerial victories**, securing his status as a **double ace** and earning the title of American Fighter Ace. His decorations include the **Silver Star**, **Distinguished Flying Cross**, **Air Medal**, and several foreign honors, underscoring his international contributions to Allied victory in Europe.
