### **Biography of Colonel Charles ""Chuck"" Older**
**Charles Herman ""Chuck"" Older** (1917–2006) was a distinguished American military aviator and later a respected judge in the California Superior Court. A graduate of the **University of California, Los Angeles**, and a pilot with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Older joined the legendary **Flying Tigers** in 1941, a volunteer group of American pilots recruited to aid China before the U.S. formally entered WWII.
As a pilot with the AVG's **3rd Squadron ""Hell’s Angels""**, Older flew the **Curtiss P-40 Warhawk** in numerous missions against Japanese forces in the China-Burma-India Theater. Over the course of his combat service, he was credited with **10 confirmed aerial victories**, earning him the title of **Fighter Ace**.
Following the AVG’s disbandment in 1942, Older joined the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he continued to serve with distinction in the **14th Air Force**, flying combat missions and defending Allied interests in Asia.
After the war, Chuck Older pursued a successful legal career and was appointed to the **Los Angeles Superior Court** in 1967. He is perhaps best known in the legal community as the presiding judge in the high-profile **Charles Manson murder trial** in the early 1970s.
