Despite his ban from Major League Baseball, Jackson had an impressive career batting average of .356, one of the highest in MLB history. His nickname "Shoeless" came from playing in stocking feet during one minor league game due to blisters. He was portrayed as a sympathetic figure, and some still debate whether he was truly guilty.
Started his career as a pitcher for the Red Sox and was excellent—won 89 games! Became even more famous as a power-hitting outfielder for the Yankees.
Home Run King: Hit 714 career home runs, a record that stood until 1974 (broken by Hank Aaron). Helped popularize baseball during the "Roaring Twenties" and was the centerpiece of the "Murderers' Row" Yankees lineup in the 1920s.
