This Limited Edition Fine Art Giclee is printed on acid-free museum quality paper with a hand-torn deckled edge. It is hand-titled and hand-numbered of the 375 produced. Each piece of art features an embossed seal of quality from the Historical Photo Archive collection. All though this image can be used by others the Historical Photo Archive collection will not produce more than 375 pieces.

Measures approximately 16" x 22.5" in size. The item is limited edition and you will receive a uniquely numbered of the 375 produced.

Photographer: Often credited to Charles C. Ebbets, though authorship has been disputed and may have included other photographers.

Date Taken: September 20, 1932

Location: 69th floor of the RCA Building, Rockefeller Center, Manhattan, New York.

Depicts: Eleven ironworkers casually eating lunch, chatting, and smoking — sitting on a steel beam, 840 feet above the streets of Manhattan with no safety gear.

Cultural Significance:

Symbol of American industrial ambition, immigrant labor, and the Great Depression era.

Reflects the dangerous working conditions faced by construction workers at the time.

Fun Facts:

The men were reportedly posed for the photo as a publicity stunt to promote the Rockefeller Center's construction.

Several of the workers were Irish immigrants, reflecting the role of immigrant labor in building NYC’s skyline.

Though it looks spontaneous, the shot was staged to a degree, but the danger was very real — no harnesses were used.
