Morris Jeppson was a U.S. Army Air Forces weapons specialist and a member of the crew of the B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, the aircraft that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945. Serving as the assistant weaponeer on that historic mission, Jeppson was responsible for arming the bomb in flight, making final preparations to ensure its detonation. His critical role placed him at the very center of one of the most consequential events of the 20th century.

Jeppson’s participation in the Hiroshima mission marked a turning point in world history, bringing about the swift conclusion of World War II and ushering in the nuclear age.
