### **About Roy ""Butch"" Voris**
**Captain Roy M. “Butch” Voris** (1919–2005) was a decorated **U.S. Navy fighter pilot**, World War II combat veteran, and the **founder and first commanding officer of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron**, better known as the **Blue Angels**.
During World War II, Voris flew F6F Hellcats in the Pacific Theater, achieving ace status with **eight confirmed aerial victories**. After the war, he was personally selected by Admiral Chester Nimitz to form a precision flight demonstration team to showcase Navy aviation excellence and bolster public interest. In 1946, Voris assembled the original Blue Angels team, leading them with daring and professionalism that laid the foundation for what has become one of the most elite and respected flight demonstration teams in the world.
Voris returned to lead the Blue Angels again during the Korean War and served in the Navy until his retirement in 1963.
