Kenneth Collins is a highly decorated U.S. Air Force officer and test pilot best known for his pioneering work with the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird and other cutting-edge reconnaissance aircraft developed under the famed Lockheed “Skunk Works” program. Earlier in his career, Collins distinguished himself as a combat pilot, flying the F-86 Sabre during the Korean War. Selected for the elite cadre of test pilots in the 1960s, he became one of a handful of men entrusted with the nation’s most advanced and secret aircraft.

Collins flew the A-12 Oxcart and later the SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest and highest-flying jet ever built, capable of sustained speeds above Mach 3 at altitudes exceeding 80,000 feet. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Air Force Cross, the nation’s second-highest decoration for valor, as well as numerous other commendations for bravery and excellence in aviation.
