Marion Carl was one of the most distinguished U.S. Marine Corps aviators of the 20th century. As the Marine Corps’ first ace of World War II, Carl achieved his initial aerial victories during the defense of Guadalcanal in 1942, ultimately being credited with 18.5 confirmed kills over the course of the war. He received the Navy Cross for his extraordinary heroism in those early Pacific battles, where his skill and courage helped turn the tide against numerically superior Japanese forces.
After World War II, Carl continued to make history as a test pilot, flying pioneering jet aircraft and setting world speed and altitude records. His career spanned both combat and cutting-edge aviation development, culminating in his promotion to Major General before retirement.
This signed index card, authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, represents a significant piece of Marine Corps and aviation history, linking collectors to the career of a legendary ace, test pilot, and aviation pioneer.
