"Presented is a scarce hand-signed bookplate by Colonel Spiros “Steve” Pisanos (1919–2016), executed in pencil. This example is part of a limited edition of only 100, making it an especially desirable collectible. Steve Pisanos, known as “The Flying Greek,” was a celebrated P-51 Mustang ace whose story embodies both determination and heroism. Born in Greece, he immigrated to the United States and volunteered for the Royal Air Force prior to America’s entry into World War II. He later transferred to the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he flew with the famed 4th Fighter Group. Over the course of his wartime service, Pisanos was credited with 10 confirmed aerial victories, establishing himself as one of the leading aces of the European Theater.

Pisanos’s life story is also one of resilience. After being forced down in France in 1944, he avoided capture and joined the French Resistance, continuing to aid the Allied cause until the liberation. Following the war, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen and went on to serve a long and distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of colonel.

This limited-edition signed bookplate, authenticated and accompanied by PSA/DNA’s Certificate of Authenticity, represents a rare opportunity to own the autograph of a P-51 ace, immigrant hero, and decorated U.S. officer whose remarkable life was defined by courage in the air and perseverance on the ground.
