Charles MacDonald was one of the United States Army Air Forces’ leading fighter aces of World War II and a highly decorated combat leader. Assigned to the 475th Fighter Group, “Satan’s Angels,” in the Southwest Pacific Theater, MacDonald flew the formidable P-38 Lightning and became renowned for his exceptional skill and leadership in aerial combat.

Over the course of the war, MacDonald achieved 27 aerial victories, making him the third-highest-scoring American ace in the Pacific Theater. He commanded the famed 475th Fighter Group and was credited with developing effective long-range fighter tactics that helped secure air superiority over New Guinea, the Philippines, and beyond.
