Presented is a hand-signed 8x10 photograph by Major Theodore “Dutch” Van Kirk (1921–2014), the navigator of the B-29 Enola Gay, the aircraft that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945. The autograph has been authenticated by PSA/DNA and comes with their Letter of Authenticity, ensuring both verification and long-term preservation.

As the navigator aboard the Enola Gay, Van Kirk played a crucial role in one of the most significant missions in military history. Serving with the 509th Composite Group, he was responsible for guiding the aircraft during the meticulously planned and highly secretive operation that marked the dawn of the atomic age. His precision navigation ensured the mission’s success as the Enola Gay, piloted by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets, Jr., released the atomic bomb “Little Boy” over Hiroshima, effectively hastening the end of World War II.

Before joining the atomic mission, Van Kirk had already built an impressive record as a U.S. Army Air Forces navigator. He previously flew with the 91st Bomb Group in Europe, completing missions aboard the famous B-17 Flying Fortress Red Gremlin. His experience and expertise made him one of the most trusted navigators in the U.S. air campaign.

For his service and contribution to one of the most momentous events in modern history, Van Kirk received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and other commendations. After the war, he pursued a civilian career in engineering and remained an active advocate for historical education, often speaking about his experiences with the Enola Gay and the moral complexities of atomic warfare.

This PSA/DNA authenticated 8x10 signed photograph offers collectors a rare and historically profound artifact—an authentic autograph from the last surviving crew member of the Enola Gay, whose courage and precision helped bring World War II to a close.
