Set of (66) cards.
This 1963 Fleer Baseball Card Complete Set consists of all 66 of the player cards. In order to keep the cost of these sets down, the unnumbered checklist is not included, but can be purchased separately.
Both the checklist and #46 Joe Adcock are considered Short-Prints. Cards #1 to #66 were produced during the first print run of the 1963 Fleer Baseball Card Set. During the second printing, the checklist was substituted for the #46 Joe Adcock card on the print sheet, so both cards are in shorter supply than the rest of the cards in the set.
The set was an attempt by Fleer to break into the baseball card market. In an effort to bypass the confections monopoly that Topps had on baseball cards, Fleer included a cookie in each pack of cards instead of bubble gum. Fleer was forced to give the cookie a very low sugar content for the same reason, resulting in a tasteless, inedible cookie. Topps resorted to quick legal action and the 1963 Fleer set was limited to a single series.
The 1963 Fleer Baseball Card set is popular among collectors because of all the stars that it contains. It is also the only set in which you can get a card of 1962 N.L. MVP Maury Wills. The Fleer cards were also issued in much smaller numbers than the 1963 Topps and have kept a nice value over the years.
