The 1973 championship season stands as the apex of the New York Knicks’ golden era—a cohesive, defense-first collective built on depth, discipline and unselfish play. Coached by Red Holzman, the roster blended veteran savvy and complementary roles: captain Willis Reed anchored the interior, backcourt maestro Walt Frazier orchestrated both ends, and scorers Earl Monroe and Bill Bradley stretched defenses. Rugged defender Dave DeBusschere and a deep bench completed a lineup defined by switching defense and crisp ball movement. New York finished 57–25, then dispatched the Los Angeles Lakers 4–1 in the 1973 NBA Finals, securing the franchise’s second title and cementing a model of team-centric basketball that remains iconic in league history.
