Serving as a replacement to the NHL All-Star Game, the 4 Nations Faceoff was a first of its kind tournament featuring a competition between the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland. What made the tournament even more exciting is that current NHL players were allowed to represent their countries, allowing the formation of "super teams" for each country. For Team Canada that gave them a huge advantage, allowing them to form a team composed of Connor McDavid, Sydney Crosby, and Nathon MacKinnon, three of the NHL's biggest stars today. The tournament was a massive success with attendance sellouts every game and TV ratings records broken. In four games played, Connor McDavid would finish with 3 goals and 2 assists, his 5 total points tying him with Sydney Crosby atop Team Canada's scoring leaders. Along with tying for the team lead in scoring, McDavid would also have the tournament's biggest moment when he would score the tournament clinching goal 8:18 into overtime in a 3-2 win over the United States in the tournament's championship game.
