Evaluation: 031-26 Mad Magazine 1970

This exceptional mixed media piece by Mark Lewis - great-grand-nephew of MLB legend Cy Young - features the original October 1970 MAD Magazine No. 138 cover. This satirical illustration, by Norman Mingo, parodies Peanuts with Alfred E. Neuman as a baseball player on the iconic doghouse, cleverly playing on Charlie Brown's 'Puts on the Dog' expression. Lewis creates an explosive background using his signature hand-painted style on high-grade acrylic glass, with swaths of cobalt blue, red, orange, and white paint. Complex yellow lines form intricate patterns that add to the piece's dimensionality. Lewis's original signature is hand-applied to the glass, forming a unique bond between the vintage and modern art.

Provenance: Direct from the studio of Mark Lewis (Descendant of Cy Young).
