John Calvin Coolidge Jr. (July 4, 1872-January 5, 1933) was the 30th President of the United States. Born in Vermont, Calvin Coolidge worked his way up in Massachusetts politics culminating in election to Governor. His response to the Boston Police Strike of 1919 thrust him into the national political spotlight and gave him a reputation as a man of decisive action. Soon after he was elected Vice-President to 29th President Warren Harding in 1920. He succeeded him on August 2, 1923 upon the sudden death of President Harding. He was elected on his own right in 1924, and served his own four year term from 1925-1929. The Presidential Naval Appointment is co-signed by Secretary of the Navy Curtis Wilbur.

Presidential Naval Appointment letter measures 15" x 19.25" in size and has been hand-signed in black ink pen by Calvin Coolidge. The contents of the letter appoint Arthur Rice to the position of Captian in the Navy, and has been dated October 18, 1926. Please note, the auction includes two photos of Coolidge, sized 5" x 7" and 8" x 10".
