When compiling a list of the best skaters in the history of the Colorado Avalanche franchise, there’s no doubt Hall of Famers Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg are right at the top. When Forsberg joined the Nordiques in January 1995, he bonded immediately with Sakic, who had been in the league for six seasons already. Their chemistry was evident from the beginning and both served as leaders for a burgeoning team in its move to Colorado the following year. The Avalanche put it all together in their first season in Denver behind the explosive play of their superstar centers. Sakic notched his first career 50-goal seasons and finished with a career-best 120 points while Forsberg had 116 points of his own. The end result was a Stanley Cup championship. The duo lifted the iconic trophy again five years later as they combined for 207 points in the regular season and established themselves as the preeminent duo in the NHL.
