When a team retires a number and takes it out of circulation, it is a way to honor a former member of the team who was outstanding when he wore that number. There are currently a total of 122 retired numbers in the National Hockey League, and one of those honorees is Grant Fuhr with the number 31 he wore while playing for the Edmonton Oilers. Fuhr was honored by the Oilers on October 9, 2003, and in the same year was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Wayne Gretzky once commented that if he had to face Grant Fuhr 80 nights a year, he'd be working with his dad at the telephone company instead of playing in the NHL. Fuhr won 226 regular season games and a total of 300 games while wearing the Edmonton Oilers sweater. Prior to the 2003 season opener against the San Jose Sharks, the Oilers conducted a ceremony to retire Fuhr's number as he joined Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri and Al Hamilton in the rafters of the Skyreach Centre.

The autograph includes an official Upper Deck Authenticated (UDA) hologram and matching COA for authenticity purposes.
