Widely recognized as America's first silver dollar, also knows as a "piece of eight," the 8-reales silver coin circulated throughout the Americas in the 1700's and remained legal tender in the U.S. until 1857. The front of the 8-reales silver dollar from the wreck of El Cazador features a portrait of King Charles III. The back shows the Spanish royal coat of arms and the royal crown.
