Collectors of coins issued in unique weights are sure to love this 1000 Yuan 1986 12 oz. Gold Chinese Panda. This coin was struck from .999 fine gold and is part of a mintage of 2,550 pieces.

The obverse of the coin features one of the most famous buildings in one of Beijing's most famous landmarks, the Temple of Heaven. The Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is shown from a wider angle than it is shown on recent Silver Pandas. This image shows the entrance level curving around the building proper. Arching over the image is an inscription that translates to "People's Republic of China," while the date is included below the Temple.

On the reverse is an image of two pandas, an adult and her cub. The adult is seated and holds a bamboo shoot as the baby leans forward in front of her. A Chinese inscription that provides the weight and purity of the coin arches along the rim at the top of this face, while an inscription on the right offers the coin's face value.
