1908 Season Pass ticket measures approximately 2.5" x 4.25" and has been hand signed by William Cody (D. 1917).

This pass was issued to Charles Schreyvogel, (and filled out in Cody's hand )(1861-1912), an American artist specializing in Western subjects. Cody had first met Schreyvogel in 1894, when he gave the artist unprecedented access to the show grounds for sketching and other artistic studies. In 1908, Cody commissioned Schreyvogel to produce a monumental oil painting entitled "Rescue at Summit Springs" which glorified Cody's role in the July 11, 1869 clash between U.S. Cavalry and Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Sioux warriors at Summit Springs in northeastern Colorado. Cody had at best only a tangential role in the battle--orchestrated to rescue two white female captives--but in Schreyvogel's painting, Cody is heroically depicted at the center of action.
