Cut measures 3" x 5" in size and has been hand signed by Abraham Lincoln (D. 1865).

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He is widely regarded as one of America's greatest presidents and played a crucial role in preserving the Union during the American Civil War and ending slavery.

Born on February 12, 1809, in Hodgenville, Kentucky, Lincoln grew up in a modest family. He had limited formal education but was an avid reader and self-taught lawyer. Lincoln began his political career in Illinois, serving in the state legislature and later in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Lincoln's election as president in 1860 sparked the secession crisis, as several Southern states, fearing his stance against slavery, decided to leave the Union and form the Confederacy. The Civil War began in April 1861, shortly after Lincoln's inauguration. Throughout the war, Lincoln worked tirelessly to preserve the Union and issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862, declaring that all slaves in Confederate-held territory were to be set free.

In 1863, Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address, a famous speech that reaffirmed the principles of equality and democracy upon which the United States was founded. As the war progressed, Lincoln faced significant challenges, but his leadership and determination helped guide the Union to victory in 1865.
