Abraham Lincoln's legal brief October 10th, 1837 document in a 17" x 34.5 " custom frame.

Abraham Lincoln's scarce and authentic early handwritten legal brief dated October 10th, 1837, when a young and newly certified Illinois Lawyer, was only 28 years old and in his first year of practicing law. The front is written entirely in Lincoln's hand, with over 60 words and flourishes. The same hand that wrote the Gettysburg Address and signed the Emancipation Proclamation, many years later as our 16th President.

Signed at the conclusion Stuart and "Lincoln." This letter directed a clerk to issue a subpoena in chancery for Isaac R. Beau in a suit brought by William Hickman, administrator of George Churchill, deceased. This is dated to the very first year he began to practice law as a partner of John Stuart.

Lincoln has written:

"State of Illinois Sangamon county & circuit In Sangamon Circuit Court October Ten 1837 William Hickman, executor of the last will of George Churchill deceased vs. Isaac R Braucher Trespass on the case upon promises Damages $600 The clerk of the Sangamon circuit court will issue process in the above case returnable to the next session of said Court, Stuart and Lincoln for pl [anti]ff"

Document measures 4.5"x 7.75" within a 6.5" x 10" encapsulate.

This magnificent document, fit for generations of enjoyment, is museum framed and preserved with two early photos of a younger beardless Lincoln, a 50-cent fractional currency bill with Lincoln's image, created and printed by the Currency Act of 1863, a medal and bar presented to descendants of Civil War veterans, a Lincoln memorial medal, and historically dated plaques, and a quote.

This piece is authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA and is accompanied by a Letter of Authentication by JSA certifying the entire document is written by Lincoln. Further writings on the back were written by an unknown hand.

The autograph(s) has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA and also features an official James Spence Authentication (JSA) hologram and matching LOA for authenticity purposes.
