Wayne Gretzky joined the Phoenix Coyotes (formerly the Winnipeg Jets) in 2000 as their head coach and part owner. His tenure with the Coyotes was marked by mixed success, as the team struggled to make significant playoff progress. Despite this, Gretzky's presence elevated the team's profile and helped popularize hockey in the southwestern United States. He stepped down as head coach in 2009 when the team went into bankruptcy.
